Check an address

Privacy

How your address is used when you run a check.

What happens to your address

Your search needs an address provider to find the location. Which providers receive it depends on the search method:

Google, when configured
If the checker has a Google Maps key, Google receives the address search and provides the map. Google search points are not saved. Its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy apply to that service.
Esri address suggestions
Once you type four or more characters, Esri receives that text to look for suggestions. Choosing one locates that address record. Suggestions from our reviewed facility collection use approximate reference points instead. Building matches and street-range estimates are labeled separately.
Census and Esri address matching
For a full-address search without Google, or when Google cannot find it, the address goes to the U.S. Census Bureau. If Census cannot find it, Esri’s ArcGIS World Geocoding Service tries next. Esri results are used only for the current map session. They are not saved or offered as downloadable coordinates.
OpenStreetMap
OpenStreetMap supplies map tiles and some linked facility geometry. Points derived from that geometry are © OpenStreetMap contributors, under ODbL.

If address providers cannot locate an exact reviewed facility address, we may use its approximate facility reference point. We label that choice clearly; it is not a geocoded home. A marker you place yourself checks that point, while the typed address remains unverified.

The address checker has no saved-search database, advertising trackers or account system of its own.

Public source suggestions

The optional source form stores only the campus you select, the public link and a submission date. These are visible through our public research queue for up to 90 days and may be retained in our research repository and published evidence. Do not submit personal information or private links.

Cloudflare hosts this queue. To limit spam, the form uses a temporary, salted daily hash of your IP address; the app does not store the raw IP address. Cloudflare may process connection information under its own policies. Address searches are not sent to this queue.

Submitted public sources may be processed by Tavily and OpenRouter for research. Submitting a link does not guarantee publication or a response.
